A year ago, I walked into the Durban Film Office's boardroom with nothing but a dream, ready to nervously pitch my documentary film idea for development. A year later the rest is history!
I am excited to share that Abahlengethwa (African Dolphin) has successfully completed its preliminary development phase, marking an important milestone in the project's journey.
This achievement was made possible through the support of the Durban Film Office, whose investment in local storytelling continues to create opportunities for filmmakers to develop meaningful and impactful projects.
Over the past several months, the development process has focused on research, story development, creative planning, and building the foundations required to bring the project to life. It has also provided valuable opportunities to connect with a diverse network of collaborators, specialists, and community voices whose insights have helped shape the direction of the film.
The completion of this phase has resulted in the successful delivery of key development materials, including the project's creative package, strategic plans, and promotional assets. More importantly, it has allowed the team to refine the project's vision and strengthen its potential for future production.
As a documentary rooted in themes of culture, heritage, and ocean conservation, African Dolphin aims to contribute to important conversations while celebrating stories that are often overlooked. While we are not yet ready to reveal all the details, we are encouraged by the progress made so far and excited about what lies ahead.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Durban Film Office and everyone who has contributed their time, knowledge, and support throughout this phase. Their belief in the project has been instrumental in helping us reach this point.
With development now complete, we look forward to the next chapter and to sharing more updates as the journey continues.
